About Tepoztlan
Tepoztlan is a small ancient charming town, which is full of mysticism and tradition. It is located 21 km (13 mi) east of Cuernavaca, along the foothills of the Sierra del Chichinautzin, in a region with beautiful landscapes. Its name derives from the nahuatl word "Tepuztli", meaning "copper axe above a hill".
In this town of rich natural resources you’ll immediately notice the imposing Cerro del Tepozteco (Tepozteco Hill), a main tourist attraction, where you’ll find a small pyramid on the top of the hill. The climb takes around an hour, and anyone who is reasonably fit can do it (no need of special equipment and the path is easy and very clearly indicated, though it is very steep). The views from the top are gorgeous. You must pay an entrance fee (about $30 pesos) to enter the pyramid area on the top.
One of the main attractions of Tepoztlan is the market place. On Saturdays and Sundays one can buy in it regional handicrafts from every corner of the country and handicrafts found nowhere else but here.
There are also very good restaurants with traditional Mexican cooking.
